Yellowstone is Burning!

Twenty years ago, America awoke to frantic headlines that our first national park, Yellowstone, was being destroyed by fire. Now, after 20 years, the facts on the ground say otherwise.

Yellowstone Burning

The 1988 Yellowstone fires were not the ecological disaster the media proclaimed. Far from destroying the park, the fires brought new life, thinned the forest canopies and allowed more diverse habitats to re-emerge. They created a mosaic of burns, partial burns, and unburned areas that provided new habitats for plants and animals and new realms for research.

They were, in fact, beneficial to plants and animals alike. It was only the human species who lost their cool.
