On this day in 1809, Charles Darwin, the great naturalist, was born in Shropshire, England. In 1838, at the age of 29, he conceived his theory of evolution by natural selection. One of the most influential figures in human history, he was buried in Westminster Abbey on April 19,1882, next to Isaac Newton.
