Andropogon gerardii (big bluestem)
Also called turkey-foot, muckode-kanes, or hade-zhide. Formerly called A. furcatus.
A tall, long-lived grass. The seed is easy to collect and in large quantities. Seen occasionally along roads and railways. Originally, this was likely the most common prairie plant. It is aggressive and well adapted to nearly all sunny clines.
