about TPE

The Prairie Enthusiasts (TPE) is a private, 501c(3) corporation committed to the preservation of the native grassland ecosystems of the Upper Midwest. TPE is a grassroots, volunteer-led group, organized as a central Board of Directors with multiple regional Chapters.

Historically, TPE evolved out of the growing coordination between several existing conservation organizations which were started in the mid-1970's. There are now eight TPE chapters operating in Illinois, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

TPE differs from other conservation groups in its unique mission to preserve the prairies, meadows, and savannas of the Upper Midwest. The focus of the organization is on grassland protection, restoration, and management. Ancillary activities include ecological research, environmental education, and participation in the broader conservation community.
